Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi received key endorsements from former Illinois House Majority Leader Jim McPike and a group of local leaders from Jackson County.
The endorsements come as Krishnamoorthi campaigns for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Dick Durbin in the 2026 election, signalling growing support from both senior Democratic leadership and downstate Illinois.

Announcing his endorsement in a statement shared by the campaign, McPike said, “As the former Illinois House Majority Leader, I know that communities across Illinois need a leader who shows up consistently, listens to constituents, and does the work necessary to represent our great state.Raja is that leader, and I am proud to endorse his bid to become Illinois’ next U.S. Senator.”

Acknowledging the endorsements, he said, “I am honored to have earned the support of these Jackson County leaders,” adding that local leaders are often the most closely connected to community needs and that the partnership would help ensure downstate Illinois has a strong voice in the U.S. Senate.
The McPike and Jackson County endorsements add to a growing list of support Krishnamoorthi has received since announcing his Senate bid. Earlier in the race, he was endorsed by former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon, an endorsement seen as an early show of confidence from a senior Democratic leader with strong ties to southern Illinois.
Krishnamoorthi has also drawn endorsements from several advocacy and political organizations. These include ASPIRE PAC, the political arm of Democratic Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander members of Congress, as well as Defend The Vote, which cited his record on voter protection and civil rights.
The Indian American Impact Fund has also endorsed his candidacy, highlighting his positions on economic opportunity, national security and inclusive representation.
Krishnamoorthi has represented Illinois’ 8th Congressional District since 2017 and has served on high-profile House committees, including the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, while holding leadership roles focused on national security, economic competitiveness and consumer protection.
The 2026 Democratic primary is expected to be closely contested, with multiple prominent Democrats in the field.
