Deepak Pathak bags 2026 PAMI Young Researcher Award

Pathak's work was recognized at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR).

Indian American tech entrepreneur Deepak Pathak has won the 2026 PAMI Young Researcher Award in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions that have left a lasting impact on the field of AI.

Pathak is the co-founder and CEO of the AI startup Skild AI and is also the Raj Reddy Assistant Professor in Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

The PAMI Young Researcher Award is an annual award recognizing young researchers for their distinguished research contributions to computer vision.

The award is presented by the IEEE Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) Technical Committee, and the selection is managed by the PAMI-TC Awards Committee.

The winner is announced annually at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR).

In 2026, Pathak and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Associate Professor Vincent Sitzmann won the top award.

Pathak studied at IIT Kanpur and UC Berkeley, specializing in artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning and robotics, with a focus on autonomous agents and self-supervised learning.

Celebrating its CEO's win, Skild AI said on X, "Exciting news! Our CEO & Co-founder, Deepak Pathak, received the PAMI Young Researcher Award at #CVPR2026 this week."

It further remarked, "Among the highest honors in computer vision for early-career researchers, the award recognizes groundbreaking contributions that have a lasting impact on the field of AI."

The award carries a $3,000 cash prize and a commemorative plaque, with Pathak's name recognized on the PAMI Technical Committee website.

Pathak joins an illustrious list of past Indian-origin recipients of the PAMI Young Researcher Award, including Deva Ramanan, who was the award's first recipient in 2012, followed by Abhinav Gupta in 2016 and Bharath Hariharan in 2022.
