Indian National Congress’ general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala has urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure the safe return of eight youths from Haryana who are currently stranded in war-torn Ukraine.

In a letter addressed to the External Affairs Minister, Surjewala highlighted the dire circumstances that led these youths to their current predicament. He asserted that the lack of employment opportunities forced them into a precarious situation where they were promised transportation jobs in Russia for a hefty sum of INR8 to 10 lakh each ( US$10,000).

According to Surjewala, Ankit, who had already established himself in Russia, facilitated their journey by bringing them to Moscow on tourist visas. However, instead of fulfilling their promised jobs, the youths were allegedly coerced into joining the war efforts on the front lines.

The dire situation was underscored by Sahil's unfortunate encounter with grenade injuries, as reported by Surjewala.

Amidst the chaos, the stranded youths reached out for help, revealing that their group had been forcibly separated and relocated to different locations. Their appeals for assistance flooded social media platforms, particularly Twitter, where videos depicting their ordeal circulated widely.

Expressing concern over their safety, Surjewala implored Jaishankar to intervene swiftly. He urged the foreign minister to raise the matter with their Russian counterparts and deploy embassy resources to facilitate the safe return of the stranded youths.

Harsh, one of the youths from Karnal, along with his companions from Fatehabad and Punjab, has released multiple videos in recent weeks, detailing their harrowing experience of being deceived and abandoned amidst the ongoing conflict.
