Indian American business leader Hemant Goel addressed thousands of graduates at Georgia Southern University’s Spring 2025 Commencement, urging them to approach the next chapter of their lives with curiosity and intention.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Goel said, “You are ready. You’re prepared. But when you go out into the world, be curious. Ask questions. Assume nothing.”

Known for his leadership in technology and healthcare, Goel also emphasized the importance of developing a personal mission and vision to guide decisions in both career and life.
“That makes evaluating opportunities that much easier,” Goel said. “And you don’t just drift along. In fact, that’s what helped me and guided me throughout my career.”
Reflecting on his own journey, he shared how staying true to a personal mission led to a full-circle moment—partnering with Georgia Southern through the Goel Scholar Program, which now offers full-ride scholarships and mentorship to Honors College students.
Goel, president and CEO of FinThrive, leads the healthcare financial tech firm serving over 4,000 U.S. hospitals. A former CEO of Capsule Technologies, he championed pandemic innovations. Goel and his wife Barbara actively support scholarships, STEM education, and global health initiatives through their philanthropic efforts.
The week-long commencement ceremonies recognized around 4,400 graduates from the university’s Statesboro, Armstrong, and Liberty campuses. University president Kyle Marrero congratulated the class on their resilience, calling the ceremonies a celebration of perseverance and growth.
Other keynote speakers included NFL kicker Younghoe Koo, retired Brig. Gen. Vincent E. Buggs, marketing executive Cecilia Tran Arango, and philanthropist Don L. Waters, each offering stories of determination and advice for navigating life beyond college.
