Ami Bera thanks voters for primary win

The California Democrat said he will continue meeting voters across four counties before November.

Congressman Ami Bera said he was "deeply thankful" to voters after advancing to the general election in California's 3rd Congressional District race, pledging to continue campaigning across the region and seeking another term in Congress.

"I am humbled and deeply thankful for the trust voters in the Third District have placed in me to be their voice in Washington," Bera said in a statement posted on social media.

Bera advanced to the Nov. 3 general election after finishing among the top two vote-getters in California's 3rd Congressional District primary. With about 71 percent of votes counted, Bera received 72,659 votes, or 44.2 percent, while Republican Robb Tucker received 60,562 votes, or 36.8 percent, according to Decision Desk HQ .



"I want to thank my fellow candidates for participating in this race and engaging voters in communities across this beautiful district. Our democracy is strongest when voters have the opportunity to hear different ideas, debate the issues, and make their voices heard," he said.

Looking ahead to the November election, Bera said he would seek support from a broad coalition of voters and focus on restoring accountability in Washington.

"I look forward to running a strong campaign that will unite a broad coalition of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who believe we must restore accountability, transparency, and checks and balances to Washington," Bera said.

He added that he would continue traveling throughout Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Nevada counties in the coming months to meet voters and discuss issues affecting the district.

"Over the coming months, I will continue traveling across Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, and Nevada counties to meet with voters, listen to their concerns, and earn the opportunity to serve another term in Congress," he said.

Bera currently represents California's 6th Congressional District and is seeking election in the newly drawn 3rd District following California's congressional redistricting process. The district includes portions of Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Nevada counties.

A physician by training, Bera was first elected to Congress in 2012 after defeating Republican incumbent Dan Lungren in one of the nation's closest House races. He became one of the first Indian Americans elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and has since won reelection six times.

During his tenure in Congress, Bera has served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and has worked on issues related to healthcare, foreign policy and U.S.-India relations.
