The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) has strongly condemned remarks made by Palm Bay City Councilman Chandler Langevin that targeted Indian immigrants.

Calling the comments “unacceptable, divisive, AAHOA, which represents nearly 20,000 members across the United States, said the remarks directly affected its Indian American members, including thousands of hoteliers in Florida.

The group noted that calls to “cease Indian migration” or “deport every Indian immediately” were not only factually wrong but also “echo some of history’s darkest rhetoric, drawing disturbing parallels to the language of hate that has led to violence and persecution around America.”

The association highlighted the contributions of Indian Americans as entrepreneurs, professionals, veterans, and community leaders, stating they “embody the very best of American values: hard work, family, entrepreneurship, and community service.” It added that Indian Americans play a vital role in Palm Bay, Brevard County, and across the nation.

AAHOA said America’s strength comes from diversity, and attempts to demean or exclude entire communities run counter to the country’s founding principles. “Hate has no home here, and we reject any rhetoric that seeks to divide us,” the statement read. “Instead, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring every resident feels safe, respected, and valued as part of this community.”

The group, which owns 60 percent of hotels in the U.S., emphasized that its members support more than four million jobs nationwide and contribute significantly to the nation’s GDP.
