Natya Darpan is a multilingual short-play festival featuring performances in Hindi, Marathi, English and other Indian languages. The festival has been co-organized by the Consulate General of India in New York for more than a decade and serves as a platform for theater groups to present original and adapted productions to audiences in the Indian diaspora.
According to IHCA-NJ, Natya Darpan and its companion dance festival, Nritya Darpan, were conceived by Chaudhary to promote Indian performing arts while encouraging dialogue on contemporary social issues. Over the years, productions have explored subjects including caste discrimination, greed, human trafficking, mental health and other social themes, without restrictions on language, genre or theatrical style.

Founded in 2013, IHCA-NJ is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that promotes Indian arts and cultural heritage in the United States through theater, dance and community programming.
The 10th edition of Natya Darpan, held in August 2025 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, marked the festival's 10th anniversary. According to News India Times, the two-day event featured eight short plays and opened with a ceremonial lamp-lighting led by then-Consul General Piyush Singh. Organizers also presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to five individuals in recognition of their contributions to theater.
Over the years, the festival has drawn participation from Indian diplomats, artists and community leaders, including former Consuls General Sandeep Chakravorty and Randhir Jaiswal. It has also received support from the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners.
IHCA-NJ's companion dance festival, Nritya Darpan, held its third consecutive sold-out edition in April 2026 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. The program featured performances in Indian classical dance traditions, including Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, and was supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Consulate General of India in New York.
