India’s star javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra endured another near miss at the Diamond League Finals, finishing runner-up for the third consecutive year, in Zurich on Aug. 28.

The 2025 title went to Germany’s Julian Weber, who produced a season-best and personal-best throw of 91.57m to secure his maiden Diamond League crown.

Chopra, who had won the trophy in 2022, was unable to reclaim it despite a spirited fightback in his final attempt. He began with 84.35m, followed by 82m and a foul, and was in third place midway through the contest.

Two more fouls kept him under pressure, but the Indian pulled an impressive 85.01m throw in his last attempt to leapfrog 2012 London Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, who finished third with 84.95m.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters, the defending champion, could only manage 82.06m and had to settle for fourth place.

Chopra will now shift focus to the World Championships, scheduled from September 13 to 21.
