India’s Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra kicked off his 2025 season with a solid victory at the Paris Diamond League on June 20. While he didn’t breach the elusive 90-metre mark, his opening throw of 88.16 metres was enough to secure the top spot and hold off Germany’s Julian Weber.

Chopra managed only three valid throws during the event but maintained his lead throughout. Weber, who had defeated Chopra earlier this season in Doha—where the Indian javelin star finally crossed 90 metres—and again in Poland, fell short with a best of 81.08 metres. Brazil’s Da Silva finished third.

This marks Chopra's first Diamond League win since Lausanne 2023, and his fifth overall, including the Diamond League final victory in Zurich in 2022. It was also a sweet return to Paris, where he had last competed in a Diamond League event eight years ago as a junior world champion, finishing fifth.

Chopra set the tone early, opening with 88.16 metres and closing with 82.89 in his final attempt, enough to seal a comfortable win.

Next, Chopra will compete at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic on June 24, followed by the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic on July 4—now entering it with a fresh win under his belt.
