Two Indian-origin men face revised extortion charges in Surrey

Surrey police announced additional Criminal Code charges against two Indian-origin men after the police found out that the alleged shooting incident possibly had an extortion angle to it, SPS announced on June 1.
22-year-old Damanjeet Singh and 30-year-old Pardaman Singh were arrested by Surrey Police Service after a shooting incident at a residence in the 13400 block of 87A Avenue on Apr. 22.
The shooting was linked to prior extortion threats against the resident, police found that the bullets damaged the house and a vehicle, but no one was injured.
Surrey Police Service's Extortion Response Team led an investigation that identified a suspect vehicle and resulted in a search warrant being executed at a Surrey residence.
The men were arrested during the operation and charged with multiple firearms-related offences following a coordinated effort involving several law enforcement agencies.
Both men were charged with discharging a firearm into a place and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm. They remain in custody, and police have released their photos to seek public assistance.

Both Damanjeet Singh and Pardaman Singh were originally charged with one count each of Reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence.
However, after subsequent investigation, SPS and BC Prosecution Service decided to impose additional Criminal Code charges, including two counts of extortion, one count of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without the required authorization, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm and one count of occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted firearm present.
Both accused have been remanded in custody. Damanjeet Singh’s next scheduled court date is June 16, 2026, and Pardaman Singh’s is June 2, 2026.
