Held virtually under the theme "From Traditions to Modernity," the conference examined growing international interest in India's wellness, health and well-being ecosystem, spanning yoga, AYUSH systems and the pharmaceutical industry, according to the post.

Indian Consul General Pratik Mathur inaugurated the event and highlighted the expanding global reach of Indian wellness traditions. According to the post, Mathur pointed to the increasing scale and scope of International Day of Yoga celebrations across China as an example of the growing acceptance of Indian health traditions and said the momentum could create new opportunities for Indian pharmaceutical products, healthcare professionals and wellness initiatives.

The conference was held under the hashtag "Yoga2Pharma," reflecting what organizers described as a continuum from India's traditional wellness systems to modern healthcare and pharmaceutical applications.

According to the post, nearly 500 health industry experts, academics and participants from around the world attended the conference. Mathur expressed satisfaction with the turnout and commended young members of the Indian diaspora in China for taking the initiative to organize the event, share their experiences and bring together a global audience around India's health traditions and healthcare sector.

The organizers described the conference as an effort to connect discussions on traditional Indian systems of medicine with developments in modern healthcare and pharmaceuticals, reflecting the growing international interest in India's health and wellness industries.

The event comes as the Government of India continues efforts to expand the global footprint of yoga and AYUSH-based wellness practices. According to Press Information Bureau, the Ministry of Ayush had hosted meeting of its Inter-Ministerial Committee in New Delhi to coordinate preparations for the recent celebration of International Day of Yoga 2026.

During that meeting, Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, said the ministry would provide full support for the worldwide observance of International Day of Yoga 2026 through India's network of embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions.

Further, yoga was described as an important part of India's cultural and spiritual heritage that has evolved into a global health movement. It was noted that yoga's international presence has continued to expand since the United Nations General Assembly adopted June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.

The Shanghai conference reflects those broader efforts by Indian institutions to promote traditional wellness systems alongside modern healthcare and pharmaceutical collaboration through international engagement.
