The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB), in partnership with the Consulate General of India in Boston, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 with a community event at One Federal Street, marking the first official observance hosted by the Consulate.
The program brought together members of the Indian diaspora, yoga practitioners, community leaders and cultural organizations to promote the values of holistic wellness, mindfulness and cultural exchange.
The event was emceed by Jharna Madan and began with welcome remarks by IAGB president Nilesh Agrawal. A ceremonial lamp-lighting was conducted by Consul General Raghuram S, Deputy Consul General Shruthi Purushottam, Agrawal and Federation of Indian Associations president Abhishek Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Raghuram highlighted yoga's global significance and India's continued efforts to promote it as a holistic approach to physical and mental well-being. A guided yoga session followed, led by instructors Sudhir Parikh and Niru Parikh, who introduced participants to traditional yoga postures and breathing exercises.
The celebration also featured cultural performances by students from GuruKool Enrichment Center, founded by Arpita Das Pathak, and Tarana School of Kathak, founded by Moumita Banerjee. Young performers were presented with certificates of appreciation by the Consulate in recognition of their participation.
Deputy Consul General Shruthi Purushottam delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of partner organizations, volunteers and attendees in making the event successful.
The program concluded with a saatvik brunch prepared by Treasury Kitchen of Burlington, followed by networking and community interaction.
IAGB expressed gratitude to the Consulate, volunteers, performers and community members, and said it looks forward to continued collaboration on initiatives promoting wellness, cultural exchange and community engagement.
