Sergio Gor: extra title, same mission — New Delhi

The envoy’s portfolio spans 12 nations from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan—a space where India’s own strategic interests are deeply entangled.

Gor assured the Senators that his dual role would not dilute his focus on New Delhi. /

Sergio Gor, President Donald Trump’s nominee as U.S. Ambassador to India, told Senators that his additional appointment as Special Envoy for South and Central Asia was meant to “complement, not subtract” from existing ambassadors, stressing that India would remain his primary mission.

He sought to reassure Senators that his dual role would not dilute his focus on New Delhi. Appearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the longtime Trump aide explained: “I am not nominated to be an ambassador to 12 nations. I’m here as the nominee to India. So, I am a Special Envoy to those 12 nations to complement the ambassadors that we have there”.
