Immigrants in Canada demanding work permit extensions / Riley Donovan via X
As a tide of expiring visas pile up for renewals amid significant backlogs and tightening regulations, a growing number of Indian-immigrants are fighting to continue living in the country. In a now-viral video from Manitoba, Canada, international graduates, skilled workers and other temporary permit holders are escalating their demand for "fairness".
In the video, a predominantly Sikh group, alleges that they have spent the most productive years of their lives in Canada, working, paying taxes and supporting the economy, and now the country is turning its back on them.

This massive expiration is in tune with Ottawa’s plan to reduce the proportion of temporary residents from about 7 percent to 5 percent of the population by 2027
The video alleged, "30 percent of work permits have already expired and 48 percent will expire in 2026 affecting around 1,500 people in Manitoba alone."
It continues, "At the same time, the government is talking about sending back 1.8 million temporary foreign workers while continuing to recruit new international students from around the world with the same promises that were made to us. International students pay four times higher tuition, pay taxes, spend all their earnings in Canada and fill labor shortages."
The group claims that it is not asking for any special treatment and is merely demanding fairness, recognition and respect for the years they have already contributed to Canada.
