Husband held for murder of NRI wife in Amritsar

The victim's family alleged that Dhillon committed the murder out of suspicion regarding her character.

Mandeep Singh Dhillon was arrested by the Punjab Police on Jan. 19 from Ganganagar district in Rajasthan in relation to the murder of his wife, Prabhjot Kaur, a resident of Waraich village in Gurdaspur, who had recently returned from Austria with her husband and their six-month-old son to attend a family function.

The couple was staying at Hotel Fairway, located on Court Road in Amritsar, where Kaur was found dead by the police after they received a call from the staff, notifying them of a lack of movement in their room for an extended period.

The authorities had to force entry into the room, following which they located the victim's body under a bed.

Police said that Dhillon had escaped from the hotel room after committing the crime, and Kaur was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon that was recovered from his possession.

Kaur's family alleged that Dhillon committed the murder out of suspicion regarding her character.

Following his arrest, Dhillon was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for three days.
