Welcoming the expansion of consular services in the US, a prominent Indian American community leader has urged the Indian Consulate in New York to hold those charging unjustified fees accountable and to impose penalties if violations are confirmed.

Prominent Indian American community leader Prem Bhandari, at the inauguration of the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) in Edison, New Jersey — one of eight new centres opened across the United States — emphasised the need for transparency and accountability while serving the needs of the Indian American community.
