A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the U.S. House and Senate introduced legislation on Sept. 19 to shield so-called “Documented Dreamers,” the children of long-term visa holders, from being forced to leave the country when they turn 21.

The America’s CHILDREN Act, unveiled by Democratic Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois and a coalition of colleagues from both parties, aims to provide permanent residency options and age-out protections to more than 250,000 young people who have grown up legally in the United States as dependents of skilled immigrant workers.
