Indian students received fewer UK study visas in the year ending June 2025, continuing a downward trend that began last year. According to the UK Home Office’s Immigration system statistics, year ending June 2025, Indian nationals accounted for 98,014 visas, an 11 percent fall from the previous year. Despite the decline, they remain one of the largest groups of international students in Britain.
The report shows that the majority of Indians arriving to study in the UK are enrolled in postgraduate programmes. In the year ending March 2025, 81 percent of Indian students were granted visas for master’s level courses. This proportion is significantly higher than for other major student groups, with just over half of Chinese students, at 59 percent, coming for postgraduate study.
