Peel Police announced on April 16 the arrest of Indian-origin Brampton man, 40-year-old Varinder Dhillon, accusing him of stealing hurricane relief supplies destined for Jamaica.
Investigators from the Commercial Auto Crime Bureau arrested and charged Dhillon on March 11. He was already on probation for similar offenses and had been prohibited from driving indefinitely.
Dhillon allegedly broke into a secured storage facility near Derry Road East and Goreway Drive in Mississauga in December 2023 and hitched a trailer with a shipping container and fled the area with the stolen goods using a shipping truck.
The stolen goods included thousands of dollars in relief supplies such as clothing and nonperishables that were awaiting shipment to Jamaica to aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

Dhillon was identified and caught at his Brampton residence after an extensive investigation, and stolen property worth approximately $1 million was reportedly recovered.
Peel Police noted that the recovered property was subsequently “returned to its rightful owner” and shipped to Kingston, Jamaica, where it will be dispersed for hurricane relief.
He faces charges including break and enter to commit an indictable offense, two counts of theft over $5,000, two counts of operating while prohibited, three counts of breaching a probation order, one count of failing to comply with a release order, and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
