Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Chris Stewart partnered with Senator Dick Durbin to relaunch the bipartisan Congressional Caucus to end the youth vaping epidemic. Vaping is an electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS), which includes e-cigarettes.
Since its founding in 2019, the bipartisan Caucus has been dedicated to educating Members of Congress, public servants, and community stakeholders on the history of tobacco policy and regulation—especially as it pertains to e-cigarettes, as well as the industry’s responsibility for the youth vaping epidemic, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation of tobacco products.
According to the FDA, “In 2020, the National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) data showed that 1.8 million fewer U.S. youth were currently using e-cigarettes compared to 2019. While that finding was promising, the data also showed disposable e-cigarette use among high school students increased from 2.4 per cent in 2019 to 26.5 per cent in 2020.”
