A globally recognized expert in glass science and spectroscopy, Sen brings decades of academic and industry experience to the role. His career spans academia and industry, including a tenure at Aberystwyth University in Wales and a role as senior scientist at Corning Inc., where he worked on developing glass technologies for telecommunications and display systems.
Since joining UC Davis in 2004, Sen has served as vice chair of the department and currently holds the Blacutt-Underwood professorship in materials science.
Commenting on his new role Sen said, “As the incoming chair of the department, I look forward to nurturing this role and fostering an increasingly collaborative research environment — one that strengthens our partnerships with other departments across the college and advances our shared goals."
Sen’s research focuses on the atomic structure and dynamical behavior of amorphous and crystalline materials, applying advanced spectroscopic and rheological methods. He has authored over 280 scientific publications and received several prestigious awards, including the 2020 Otto Schott Research Award for excellence in glass science.
Sen received his bachelors from the University of Calcutta, masters from the University of Houston, and PhD from Stanford University.
