Trump warns of ‘pain’ if shutdown persists, pledges to ‘make cities safe’
The president said negotiations with Democrats were focused on healthcare and spending, acknowledging he was “talking to them” about possible fixes to the Affordable Care Act.

President Donald Trump said Oct. 5 that a prolonged government shutdown could cause “a great deal of pain,” even as he blamed Democrats for the impasse and vowed to restore safety in crime-plagued cities through tougher federal action.
“It could lead to pain, but hang in there,” Trump told reporters. “A lot of good things are going to happen.”
