Trump endorses Saritha Komatireddy for NY attorney general

President Donald J. Trump has endorsed Republican candidate Saritha Komatireddy in her bid for New York attorney general, setting up a high-stakes challenge against incumbent Democrat Letitia James in the upcoming November election.
In a statement posted to Truth Social on Aug. 14, Trump praised Komatireddy as an "America First Patriot" and cited her legal credentials, pointing to her past work as a federal prosecutor, former chief of staff of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), former law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and graduate of Harvard Law School.
Trump also highlighted support for Komatireddy from “Greatest MAGA Warriors” in New York and key state Republicans, including Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican nominee for New York governor.
Trump used the endorsement to launch sharp criticism against current Attorney General James and Gov. Kathy Hochul, claiming state leadership has allowed public safety to deteriorate.
Directing much of his critique at James, whom he referred to with a derogatory nickname, Trump accused the attorney general of prioritizing political investigations over violent crime. He pointed to James’ brief 2021 primary challenge for governor before she withdrew to run for re-election as attorney general, arguing her focus has remained on "witch hunts" against political opponents while residents and businesses leave the state.

In his endorsement, Trump outlined core platform priorities for Komatireddy's campaign, including enhancing law enforcement support and restoring public order, implementing stricter border security and anti-migrant crime policies, advancing election integrity measures, defending Second Amendment rights and bolstering the state's economy.
Following Trump's announcement, Komatireddy welcomed the endorsement on social media, reinforcing her previous connection to the former president's administration.
"I was honored to be nominated to be a federal judge by the President in 2020 and I’m honored to receive his endorsement today," Komatireddy wrote in a post on X. "I’m working hard to win the support of all New Yorkers and defeat Letitia James this November."
Komatireddy, who is campaigning on a platform centered on crime prevention and law enforcement reform, urged voters and donors to rally behind her campaign as the election approaches.
The endorsement places the New York attorney general race into the national political spotlight, setting up a sharp contrast between James' record and Komatireddy's conservative legal platform ahead of the November election.
