A 15-year-old boy was sentenced to seven years in custody for killing an 80-year-old British Indian in Leicestershire, UK.
The accused assaulted Bhim Kohli as he was walking his dog in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, last September. His accomplice, a 13-year-old girl who encouraged the attack and filmed it while laughing, received a three-year youth rehabilitation order along with a six-month curfew.

Both teenagers were found guilty of manslaughter at Leicester Crown Court. The boy, who wore a balaclava and used racist language before striking Kohli with a slide-style shoe, carried out a sustained assault lasting over seven minutes. Prosecutors said the fatal injury was a spinal cord fracture.
Kohli, a retired engineer, was just yards from his home when the attack occurred. His children found him in severe pain and rushed him to the hospital, where he died the following day.
The court heard that Kohli had previously reported incidents of antisocial behaviour and racial harassment in the area, including being targeted by local children who threw stones at him and spat on him.
Prosecutors described the assault as violent and unprovoked, highlighting the rarity of such serious charges against individuals so young.
The girl’s role was deemed significant— although she did not physically harm Kohli, the court found her actions directly contributed to the assault. The judge noted that the boy appeared to act, in part, to impress her—reinforcing shared culpability.
Kohli’s family, who were with him in his final moments, said the punishment did not reflect the gravity of the crime and described the lasting trauma it caused, especially when revisiting the same park where the attack took place.
