Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna has called for sweeping action against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), following the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old nurse by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

Khanna appealed to fellow Democrats to take a unified stand against what he described as unchecked and violent immigration enforcement. His remarks came after ICE agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, a former nurse with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Pretti’s death follows the fatal shooting of Renée Good just weeks earlier.

Khanna made an exhaustive list of demands, aimed at tightening Congressional control on DHS and limiting its aggressive immigration enforcement.

Calling for a freeze on funds, Khanna appealed to all Democratic Congressmembers to vote 'NO' on the DHS funding bill and to repeal the multi-year $75 billion funding for ICE.

The Congressman from California also appealed to his peers to end qualified immunity for ICE agents and to "investigate and prosecute every single ICE agent who broke the law."

Another key appeal was outlawing the ability of federal agents to stop and detain a person based on their perceived ethnicity, spoken language, and occupation.

Khanna took a more aggressive position with his other demands and called for the impeachment of U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. He also demanded, "Tear down and replace ICE with an agency that has oversight."

He alleged that President Donald Trump is engaged in the systematic destruction of the rule of law and the U.S. Congress owes it to "nurse Pretti and the hundreds of thousands on the streets risking their lives to stand up for our freedoms."
