He said his family has had a deep connection with Sri Harmandir Sahib. His grandfather, Sardar Teja Singh Samundari, made a significant contribution to the Gurdwara Reform Movement. Through struggles such as Chabyian Da Morcha, Guru Ka Bagh Morcha, and other movements, the Sikh community set a powerful example of a non-violent struggle, which inspired the beginning of a successful movement across the country.
The name of Sardar Teja Singh Samundari is remembered with great respect in the history of Amritsar, and his sacrifices and struggles remain an important part of Sikh history. Similarly, Sardar Bishan Singh Samundari made valuable contributions in the field of education. He also used to visit Sri Harmandir Sahib daily to pay his respects and received immense blessings.
Sandhu said that a few days ago he was entrusted with the new responsibility of serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He added that although many challenges lie ahead, he will humbly accept the honor bestowed upon him with the Guru’s grace and will strive to overcome every challenge with service, honesty, and dedication.
He further said, “The turban on my head is not just my identity; it represents the pride of the Sikh community. I will continue to work tirelessly to uphold and elevate its honor, dignity, and prestige.”
He added that this opportunity is not only about Taranjit Singh Sandhu but also about bringing pride to the city of Amritsar. He said he would work together with the people of Delhi for development and appealed for everyone’s support and blessings.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji Tahla Sahib, Chabba, where Baba Darshan Singh Tahla Sahib specially honored him.
