Netflix has released the first look at its upcoming coming-of-age comedy 'Best of the Best,' starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, ahead of the film's Sept. 18 streaming debut. Set in the competitive world of U.S. college dance championships, the film follows two childhood friends whose relationship is tested as they compete for a national title.
Directed by Lena Khan, the film is written by Prashanth Venkataramanujam and Hasan Minhaj. Ramakrishnan stars as Maya alongside Priyanka Kedia, who plays Anjali. The lifelong friends share a passion for Bollywood fusion dance, but their friendship is pushed to its limits when they find themselves competing against each other for the prestigious U.S. Championship.
As the competition intensifies, Maya and Anjali must decide whether achieving their ambitions is worth risking the bond they have built over the years. The story explores themes of ambition, loyalty and self-discovery while centering on the challenges of college life and competitive dance.
The film is set against the backdrop of Bollywood fusion dance competitions in the United States. It combines dance performances with comedic and emotional moments as the characters pursue their personal and professional goals.
The supporting cast includes Ankur Rathee, Janina Gavankar, Chaneil Kular, Becky Alex, Shreya Navile, Hasan Minhaj, Lilly Singh, Nihar Duvvuri, Nico Greetham, Amryn Khurana, Tanishq Joshi, Saara Chaudry and Sasha Bhasin.
Netflix announced that 'Best of the Best' will begin streaming exclusively on Sept. 18. The first-look release offers an early glimpse of the film, which centers on friendship, competition and the pressures of pursuing success in collegiate dance.
