The group said the measure prioritizes immigration enforcement over investments in housing, healthcare and education.

Stop AAPI Hate condemned Congress' approval of an additional $70 billion in funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Border Patrol, arguing that the measure will expand President Donald Trump's mass deportation campaign.

In a statement issued June 9, the advocacy organization criticized lawmakers for approving additional funding for the two agencies, which it accused of "terrorizing our communities, racially profiling people of color, violating our constitutional rights, and detaining immigrant families in overcrowded and abusive prisons."

The statement came on June 9, the same day the House approved legislation providing nearly $70 billion in additional funding for immigration enforcement through the remainder of President Trump's term.

"Instead of demanding accountability, Congress has chosen to dramatically expand ICE and Border Patrol's power and reach. And the consequences for immigrant communities of color will be devastating," the group said.

Stop AAPI Hate said it had witnessed a sharp increase in immigration enforcement actions affecting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities over the past 18 months.

The organization claimed that under the Trump administration, ICE arrests of Asian people increased by 600 percent, while arrests of Pacific Islander people rose 22 percent compared with the Biden administration.

The group said the issue extends beyond immigration enforcement, describing the administration's deportation policies as part of a broader effort to normalize "fear, racism and exclusion" and make the United States a more hostile place for communities of color regardless of citizenship or immigration status.

The statement came after Congress approved legislation providing nearly $70 billion in additional funding for immigration enforcement through the remainder of Trump's term.

According to Stop AAPI Hate, the congressional vote directs taxpayer funds toward immigration enforcement and detention rather than investments in housing, healthcare and education.

"Today's vote enables the Trump administration to do just that by funneling taxpayer dollars into immigration enforcement and mass incarceration when what we need is public investment in housing, healthcare, and education," the statement said.

The organization called for continued political organizing and civic engagement, urging support for leaders who it said would protect civil rights, uphold democratic values and oppose what it described as Trump's "racist, anti-immigrant agenda."

"The path forward is clear: We must continue organizing to shift the balance of power and elect leaders who will defend civil rights, uphold democratic values and stand against Trump's racist, anti-immigrant agenda," the group said.

The measure passed the House by a narrow 214-212 vote after clearing the Senate and allocates roughly $38 billion to ICE, $26 billion to Border Patrol operations and billions more to related Department of Homeland Security programs. President Trump signed the bill into law on June 10.
