The woman, in her 20s, was assaulted in the Park Hall area of Walsall on Oct. 25 night. Police said they were called to Park Hall on Oct. 25 evening following concerns for the welfare of a woman found distressed in the street.

CCTV footage of the suspect was released as part of a public appeal for information. The suspect was detained around 7 a.m. on Oct. 27 in the Perry Barr area on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer from the Public Protection Unit described the arrest as “a significant development” in the investigation.“This is a significant development in our investigation, and I’d like to thank everyone who has come forward with information following our appeal last night,” Tyrer said.

“Our investigation will progress today, and, as always, our priority is the woman who was the subject of this attack. She has been updated this morning and will continue to receive full support from specially trained officers,” he added.

The attack has drawn sharp condemnation from several UK politicians. Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana wrote on X, “On Saturday, a woman of Punjabi heritage was raped in a racist attack in Walsall. Last month, a Sikh woman was raped in a racist attack in Oldbury. These horrifying attacks show how racism and misogyny feed each other — fuelled by the rise of fascism and hate.”

Labour MP Preet Kaur Gill also expressed outrage, writing, “Deeply shocked and saddened that we are hearing of yet another racially aggravated rape, this time in Walsall.”

Police have urged anyone with information about the case to contact them via 101, quoting log 4027 of Oct. 25.
