Fauja Singh, world’s oldest marathon runner, dies in accident at 114
Known as 'Turbaned Tornado’, the British-Indian inspired generations with record-breaking feats.

Fauja Singh, the centenarian marathoner known as the ‘Turbaned Tornado’, died on July 14, after being hit by a car in his native village of Beas Pind in Jalandhar, Punjab. He was 114.
Born on Apr.1, 1911, in pre-Independence British India, Singh overcame early physical challenges—he could not walk until the age of five—to eventually become a global symbol of endurance. A farmer by profession, he moved to East London in 1992 following the death of his wife. It was only after the death of his son Kuldip in 1994 that Singh turned to running as a way to manage his grief.
