Bob Patel / Sempra Infrastructure
Houston-based Sempra Infrastructure on June 8 named Indian-origin executive Bhavesh “Bob” Patel as its incoming chief executive officer. The company said he will also join its board of directors.
Patel brings nearly 40 years of leadership experience across the global chemicals and energy sectors. Most recently, he served as president of Standard Industries. He previously led LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest chemical companies, as chief executive officer from 2015 to 2021.

“Sempra Infrastructure is well positioned to help meet growing global demand for reliable energy resources and I have been impressed by what Justin and the team have built,” Patel said.
“The company has established a leading energy infrastructure platform in North America, supported by a talented team and a culture grounded in safety and execution. I look forward to building on that momentum in the years ahead,” he said.
“Bob is a highly accomplished and respected global executive with deep experience leading complex energy, chemicals and industrial businesses,” said Justin Bird, Sempra Infrastructure's current chief executive officer.
“He brings a strong track record of building high-performing organizations, driving operational excellence and executing disciplined growth strategies, and we believe he is the right leader to guide Sempra Infrastructure in its next chapter of growth and build on the strong foundation the team has created,” he added.
The leadership transition comes as a KKR-led consortium prepares to acquire a 65 percent equity stake in Sempra Infrastructure under a deal announced in September 2025. Following the transaction, Sempra will retain a 25 percent interest in the company, while the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority will continue to hold its existing 10 percent stake.
“Over the past few years, we have developed a strong and strategic partnership with the Sempra Infrastructure team and have tremendous respect for the business they have built,” said James Cunningham, partner at KKR. “Bob's experience leading large-scale global organizations makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the company forward and help accelerate its long-term growth.”
Sempra Infrastructure said the transaction reflects investor confidence in the company’s long-term growth strategy and its role in developing energy infrastructure to meet rising global demand.
Patel previously served as president of Standard Industries and spent about two decades in leadership roles at Chevron and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company in the United States and Singapore. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Temple University.
