Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe will lead a trade mission to India from Feb. 28 to March 6 to strengthen economic ties and promote the province’s role in global food and energy security.

During the visit, Moe will join Prime Minister Mark Carney in New Delhi and Mumbai to advance economic partnerships between Canada and India. Saskatchewan and India have maintained a strong trade relationship, with more than US $18 billion in exports since 2007.

“The province is proud to be the consistent ally and reliable supplier of the food and energy the people of India depend on,” Moe said. “India is one of the province's largest and most important trading partners, and it is vital that we continue to build and strengthen this longstanding relationship."

"It is only through our international engagement efforts that we will be successful in resolving challenges and creating new opportunities," he added.

While in India, Moe is scheduled to speak at the Raisina Dialogue, described as India’s premier conference on geoeconomics. He is expected to highlight Saskatchewan’s strengths in energy, mining, agriculture, and critical minerals, as well as resiliency and recovery amid global economic uncertainty.

The province had earlier welcomed the federal government’s commitment to renew negotiations on the Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which would allow Saskatchewan agricultural products to access the Indian market tariff-free.

Provincial officials said a successful agreement would expand trade opportunities and reinforce Saskatchewan’s role in supporting food and energy security for India’s population of more than 1.4 billion.

As an export-based economy, Saskatchewan has operated a trade and investment office in New Delhi since 2021 and maintains a network of nine international trade and investment offices to strengthen existing trade relationships and explore new markets.
