Saikat Chakrabarti, a Democratic candidate running to represent San Francisco in Congress, has invited members of the South Asian community to a campaign event scheduled for April 19.

In a social media post, Chakrabarti called on “South Asian friends” to attend the gathering during which food prepared by Chef Ranjan at New Delhi SF will be served.

“Come with your questions and an appetite. Let’s celebrate our culture,” he wrote, adding that he would attend in traditional attire and encouraged participants to do the same.

Chakrabarti is contesting California’s 11th congressional district, following  former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision not to seek re-election after decades in office.

According to campaign figures, Chakrabarti has raised approximately $1.77 million as of the end of 2025, including about $1.47 million in candidate loans, with reported spending exceeding $1.65 million.

His campaign has received backing from progressive groups, including Justice Democrats, as well as the Peace, Accountability, and Leadership PAC (PAL PAC) and IA Impact.

A former chief of staff to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a founding engineer at Stripe, Chakrabarti has positioned himself as a progressive candidate advocating policy changes on housing, healthcare, and economic reform.

The election will be held under California’s top-two primary system, with the primary scheduled for June 2, and the general election set for Nov. 3.
