WHOOP taps cardiologist Ami Bhatt as chief medical officer
She will lead the company’s consumer health strategy and strengthen the clinical foundation of its offerings.

WHOOP, a Boston-based wearable health and human performance technology company, has appointed Indian-origin cardiologist and digital health expert Ami Bhatt as its chief medical officer.
Bhatt, a board-certified cardiologist with more than two decades of experience in clinical medicine, digital health and artificial intelligence, will lead the company's efforts to expand its consumer health offerings and strengthen the clinical foundation of its products.
In her new role, Bhatt will oversee WHOOP's health strategy, bringing together the company's health initiatives while working to bridge consumer wellness tools with clinical care. The company said her immediate focus will be on enhancing existing health features and ensuring they remain clinically meaningful for users and healthcare providers.

Bhatt previously served as the inaugural chair of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Digital Health Advisory Committee, where she helped guide the evaluation of AI-enabled healthcare technologies. She has also held leadership positions as chief innovation officer of the American College of Cardiology and director of Outpatient and Telecardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The appointment comes as WHOOP continues to broaden its health platform beyond athletic performance tracking. Recent additions include clinician-reviewed blood testing through Advanced Labs, electronic health record integration and planned in-app clinician consultations.

Dr. Bhatt has helped shape the future of digital medicine, and her leadership will help accelerate the next chapter for WHOOP,” founder and chief executive officer Will Ahmed said in a statement.Bhatt said she believes healthcare begins with continuous monitoring of people's everyday health rather than only during clinical visits.
“By combining the ongoing view of physiology provided by WHOOP with clinical judgment and the responsible use of AI, we can give people greater agency in their health and clinicians a richer picture over time. I have spent my career focused on delivering high-quality care to people where they are. WHOOP has been building toward that same vision, and now we have the opportunity to build it together,” Bhatt said.
Bhatt earned her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine and her undergraduate degree from Harvard University.
