U.S. Yogasana delegation meets CGI SF officials

The discussions focused on expanding Yoga and Yogasana across the U.S. West Coast

A delegation from the United States Yogasana Sports Federation met with officials from the Consulate General of India in San Francisco on July 23 to discuss collaboration aimed at promoting Yoga and Yogasana across California and the western United States.

The delegation was led by Balwinder Singh, founder and president of the federation, and included World Yogasana Championship athletes Kemi Blake and Kimani Blake.

The group met with Rakesh Adlakha, deputy consul general of India in San Francisco, and Ambili Sudhakaran, cultural officer and executive assistant to the deputy consul general.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation to expand Yoga and Yogasana initiatives throughout the West Coast, including plans to establish a formal California State Yogasana governing body to support the sport's structured growth.

The delegation also outlined proposals to organize the California State Yogasana Championship during 2026-27, creating opportunities for athletes, coaches, referees, judges, yoga teachers, volunteers and young participants. The initiative aims to increase awareness of Yogasana as a competitive sport while encouraging wider community participation.

During the meeting, Adlakha and Sudhakaran congratulated Blake and Kimani for their performances at the World Yogasana Championship and acknowledged their contributions to promoting the discipline.

Singh shared the federation's vision of developing a professional and inclusive national platform for Yogasana in the United States while preserving the traditional values and cultural heritage of yoga.

The federation expressed appreciation to the Consulate General of India in San Francisco for its support and encouragement and said it looks forward to continued collaboration on youth development, athlete training, cultural engagement and state-level Yogasana championships across California and other western states.

The United States Yogasana Sports Federation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting, governing and developing Yogasana as a competitive sport across the United States.
