Indian-Origin California Democratic Party Delegate-Saratoga Arts Commissioner, Lakshmi Sharma, endorsed Rakhi Israni’s Congressional bid, Israni announced on April 25.

An alumna of Delhi University and Santa Clara University, Sharma is an accomplished tech executive with over 25 years of industry experience and public service experience including  serving on school and college boards

Endorsing Israni, she noted, “I stepped away from a high-paying role to run for a school board position because I believe public service should be driven by ... execution and meaningful outcomes that create broader impact. That is why I strongly align with Rakhi Israni's values and approach to leadership.”

She continued, “I endorse Rakhi for her real-world experience as an educator, entrepreneur, and nonprofit attorney who has consistently delivered impact in the community.”

Like Shama, Israni has also been active in local schools, serving as PTA president at the elementary, middle, and high school levels attended by her children.

Additionally, Israni is the founder of a national test-preparation company, which she said drew on her background as an educator and enabled her to mentor thousands of students.

In her endorsement, Sharma hailed Israni for bringing a “rare, practical perspective” which is grounded in raising a family, creating jobs, and firsthand experience shaping young minds and empowering the next generation. A perspective which, according to Sharma, is “often missing in Washington.”

Announcing the endorsement, Israni said on X, “Honored to receive the endorsement of Lakshmi Sharma — California Democratic Party Delegate, Saratoga Arts Commissioner, and accomplished tech executive with 28+ years of experience.”

Israni likened Lakshmi to herself and said that they both stepped away from successful careers to serve their communities. She also described Sharma as a “champion for education, wellness, and holistic approaches to public service.”

Israni continued, “From Silicon Valley boardrooms to PTA meetings, Lakshmi understands that real leadership means showing up where you're needed most. Together, we're building a movement of servant leaders who put results over politics.”

Israni is contesting for California’s 14th Congressional District which covers parts of the eastern Bay Area and includes diverse suburban communities with a significant population of professionals, immigrants, and families.
