Kia America on July 23 unveiled the all-new 2027 Seltos, introducing a larger, more technologically advanced version of its compact SUV with three powertrain options, including the model's first hybrid variant, as the automaker seeks to strengthen its position in the highly competitive small SUV segment.

The redesigned Seltos draws styling inspiration from Kia's flagship Telluride SUV while adding more passenger space, greater cargo capacity, expanded safety technology and enhanced connectivity features. The company said the petrol-powered versions are on sale now in the United States, while the hybrid model is scheduled to arrive later this year.

Unveiled during a national media event in Southern California, the second-generation Seltos has grown in size compared with its predecessor. Kia said the SUV is longer, wider and rides on a wheelbase that is 2.4 inches longer, helping deliver what it describes as best-in-class passenger room and class-leading maximum cargo capacity behind the first row.

The company is offering three powertrain choices. Buyers can choose between a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine, a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine or a newly introduced hybrid powertrain. Kia said the Seltos is the only vehicle in its segment to offer three distinct powertrain options.

The hybrid model also introduces Kia's first electric all-wheel-drive system on a hybrid SUV. Additional technical details and fuel economy figures for the hybrid will be announced closer to its market launch later this year.

Kia has positioned the new Seltos as a more premium offering by incorporating features previously reserved for its larger Telluride SUV. These include available flush door handles, a panoramic sunroof, memory power seats, Multi-Mode all-wheel drive and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning.

Inside, the SUV features a redesigned cabin centred around a digital cockpit. Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a five-inch climate control display, creating nearly 30 inches of combined screen space.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, while Kia's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit supports over-the-air software updates.

The SUV also introduces entertainment features such as support for YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ streaming on selected trims when the vehicle is parked. Other connected services include Kia's AI assistant, remote vehicle controls through Kia Connect and myQ Connected Garage integration.

Safety technology has also been expanded. Standard features now include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Front and Reverse Parking Distance Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist 2 and Driver Attention Warning. Higher trims add a 360-degree Surround View Monitor, Blind Spot View Monitor and additional parking assistance technologies.

The 2.0-litre engine is available in LX, S, X-Line S and EX trims. Kia said pricing starts at an MSRP of $24,990 for the LX and rises to $30,090 for the EX. The turbocharged 1.6-litre engine is exclusive to the X-Line SX trim, which starts at $32,790 MSRP, excluding destination and other charges.

The Seltos has been one of Kia's most successful global models and has a significant presence in India. Produced locally by Kia India for both domestic sales and exports, the Seltos helped establish the South Korean automaker in one of the world's fastest-growing automotive markets after its Indian debut in 2019.

The latest-generation model and hybrid technology are therefore likely to attract close attention from Indian consumers and the broader automotive industry, although Kia has not announced plans for an India launch in the material provided.
