An Indian-origin entrepreneur was arrested in California after allegedly attempting to start a fire at a winery and then intentionally crashing his Tesla while trying to flee.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Vikram Beri of Menlo Park, was reported by staff at the Garrod Farms Estate Winery & Stables in Saratoga after he threw a wine bottle at them and attempted to escape in a Tesla.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office said Beri deliberately rammed the vehicle into two parked cars, sending one over an embankment. He then drove his Tesla off the same embankment and refused to surrender.

Despite “several de-escalation attempts,” Beri did not comply, according to the department’s statement on X. Deputies used pepperball rounds and spray, which eventually forced him to “crawl out of the car.” He was arrested at the scene and transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The sheriff’s office said Beri will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
Beri founded BetterLYF Wellness, an online mental health platform. He also serves as executive director of Business Development at Fieldking, a global farm equipment manufacturer, and previously worked in consulting at Deloitte.
He holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s in business administration in marketing and strategy from the Indian School of Business.
