Democrats seek reversal of waiver on India’s Russian oil imports

Lawmakers say the exemption could allow Russia to profit from oil previously restricted under U.S. sanctions.

Two democrats demanded that the Treasury Department reverse a decision allowing Indian refiners to temporarily purchase Russian oil.

In a March 9 letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Representative Sam T. Liccardo and Senator Ruben Gallego said the Trump administration’s decision to grant a 30-day waiver on Russian oil imports to India was “dangerous, self-defeating, and indefensible.”
