Under his leadership, the foundation has trained over 3,000 police officers and 48,000 civilians in basic trauma life-support skills and played a critical role in improving ambulance response times in Delhi during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With a unique combination of vision, grit and leadership, Tewari exemplifies the kind of bold thinking and systemic impact that aligns with the values of Brown University School of Public Health,” the university said in a statement.
Tewari was instrumental in the adoption of India’s Good Samaritan Law in 2016, which protects bystanders who help accident victims from legal harassment. His advocacy also led to a national ban on trucks carrying protruding rods, which previously caused thousands of deaths annually.
He is also known for theZero-Fatality Solutions model, which reduced traffic deaths by 58 percent on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and is now being expanded to 100 highways and districts across India. His work has received global recognition, including the Skoll Award for Social Innovation (2024), the Elevate Prize (2023), and the Rolex Award for Enterprise (2010).
Tewari has been featured in The New York Times, Time Magazine, and National Geographic for his pioneering efforts in public health and road safety.
