Ontario police announce Constable Tarun Bali's funeral
Bali was struck during the operation and died at the scene.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced that the police funeral service of Indian origin OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali will be held on June 18 in Mississauga, Canada.
29-year-old Bali was killed in the line of duty on June 9 in Hearst, Ontario, while attempting to stop and apprehend a vehicle as part of an investigation.
OPP said Bali was struck during the operation and died at the scene. An 18-year-old Hearst resident, Justin Veronneau, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, assaulting a police officer, fleeing police, resisting arrest, and dangerous driving-related offences.

In a statement, the Ontario Provincial Police Association confirmed Bali's tragic demise and said, “It is with great sadness that we inform our membership that OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, of the Dufferin County Detachment (Central Region), died in the line of duty today while working with the James Bay Detachment (North East Region).” OPP Association President David Sabatini expressed the profound impact of the tragedy on the policing community.
A police funeral service for OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre.

Authorities noted that the funeral will be held at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre and attended by Provincial Constable Bali’s family and guests, members of the OPP, police and emergency services, military and dignitary officials.
OPP also noted that the visitation and funeral service will not be open to the general public to attend, however, there will be a designated location for viewing the funeral cortege escort in person, as well as opportunities to watch the funeral service live streamed on the OPP’s YouTube page.
Additionally, a book of condolences is also available in the lobby of OPP detachments in Orangeville and Primrose (Shelburne). OPP urged community members to visit the detachments and share their messages.
