Celebrated composer and producer Karsh Kale launched his latest album, “DUST,” on May 6, marking his first full-length solo album in almost a decade.
The 11-track album by the British-born, New York-raised artist with Indian roots has sent fans into a tizzy, celebrating the artist, who is widely known for fusing traditional Indian classical music with electronic, rock and world music genres.
He has worked with global artists like Sting, Norah Jones and Talvin Singh, while also composing for films, theater and major international collaborations.
Announcing the launch of his latest album, Kale said on Instagram, “Today my heart is filled with gratitude. The emotional labor of creating this album was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.”
The album was recorded across New York City, Mumbai, Delhi and Goa and features 11 tracks: “Night Turns,” “Stranger Than Darkness,” “The Maze,” “Dust,” “Tabla Beat Scientist,” “The Nest,” “In An Hour,” “Guidance,” “Time Stretcher,” “Lift Me Up” and “Heroes.”
Kale was born in West Bromwich, England, to Indian parents. His mother is from Mumbai, while his father, a doctor originally from the village of Trimbakeshwar and educated in Pune, had been living in England for about 15 years at the time of his birth.

When Karsh was a young child, his family moved to the United States, first settling in Jackson Heights, Queens, before relocating to Long Island, where he spent most of his childhood.
Announcing the album, its official hosting page on Bandcamp said, “Karsh Kale returns with his most groundbreaking and genre-bending album to date.”
It noted that the album was born from a desire to reconnect with a “childlike creativity.”
It added, “The project began not in a studio, but on canvas. Kale spent months creating 28 paintings that served as the visual prompts for the album’s compositions, which he then developed on the piano before moving into the many soundscapes he is known for, as well as many he delivers for the first time.”
