New York fireside chat examines India’s startup ecosystem

The Consulate General of India in New York recently hosted a fireside chat on ‘India’s Startup Ecosystem, Hospitality and Tourism Opportunities,’ featuring entrepreneur Ritesh Agarwal, founder and CEO of PRISM, and moderated by Nitin Thakur, group president for strategic initiatives at PRISM.
The event brought together participants to discuss entrepreneurship, the hospitality industry and tourism opportunities in India. Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan highlighted India’s potential as a tourism destination and pointed to growing interest across multiple segments of the sector.
During the discussion, Agarwal spoke about his entrepreneurial journey and the development of India’s hospitality industry. He outlined opportunities in medical, wellness, religious, cultural and experiential tourism, and discussed factors shaping growth in the sector.

Agarwal said India’s heritage, infrastructure development and expanding middle class have contributed to increasing interest in the country as a tourism destination. He also addressed the role of technology in the hospitality industry, including the use of artificial intelligence, digital platforms and data-driven tools to improve customer experiences.
The conversation focused on developments within India’s startup ecosystem and the relationship between entrepreneurship, innovation and economic opportunities. Speakers discussed how startups can contribute to growth and transformation across industries, including hospitality and tourism.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session. Participants exchanged views on entrepreneurship, the role of startups in driving innovation, and opportunities within India’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
