Premnath’s research integrates engineering and cell biology to address bone health challenges. Her work incorporates biomaterials, genetic engineering, and pharmaceutical approaches. Alongside her research, she focuses on student mentorship and community engagement, partnering with local high schools and elementary schools, including summer programs aimed at introducing high school girls to engineering careers.
She mentors undergraduate students through the Premnath Lab, where researchers have presented projects at regional and national conferences. Several of her mentees have secured roles in Milwaukee’s engineering and biomedical sectors.
Premnath earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University, a master's in biomedical engineering from Cornell University, and a bachelor's in biomedical instrumentation and engineering from S.R.M. University in India.
The 'Young Engineer of the Year' award is presented to engineers under 40 and reflects STEM Forward’s mission to advance STEM excellence in the region.
