The American Association of Immunologists (AAI), a national body that supports career development for immunologists, has appointed Alabama State University professor Manoj Mishra to serve on its career development core committee
The committee focuses on creating and expanding professional development opportunities for immunologists at every stage of their careers, from early-career researchers to established scientists.

As a committee member, Mishra will contribute to programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening the global immunology community, promoting career development, and advancing research and education in the field.
"Given the significance of this appointment and its visibility at the national level, I believe it reflects positively on ASU's research and academic mission," Mishra said in a statement.
At the University, Mishra established the university's first Cancer Research Center and has led research focused on immunology, tumor biology and health disparities, particularly prostate cancer. He also holds an adjunct professorship in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
His laboratory has secured more than $12 million in external research funding from agencies including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Mishra has published more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers, edited three books and mentors undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those from underrepresented communities.
Mishra earned his master's and doctoral degrees from Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, before moving to the United States for postdoctoral training at Kansas State University, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He joined Alabama State University in 2009 after serving as a research scientist at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
