Lead America hosts 'American Freedom 250 Liberty' gala
The event brought together community leaders to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

Lead America Inc. hosted the "American Freedom 250 Liberty" Gala on July to mark the United States' approaching 250th anniversary.
The event, held at the Southern Asian Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, brought together community leaders, elected officials, faith leaders and residents under the theme "Unity in Diversity." It was led by Lead America President Rajesh Gooty and Co-Chair Elisha Pulavarti, with a focus on civic engagement, patriotism and cultural inclusion.

The gala was part of broader community-led celebrations surrounding the United States' semiquincentennial in 2026, as organizations across the country continue to host events highlighting the nation's history, democratic values and cultural diversity ahead of the milestone anniversary. The yearlong Freedom 250 initiative has also encouraged civic, educational and community organizations to commemorate the anniversary through public events and outreach.
U.S. Rep. Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia's 10th Congressional District welcomed attendees and commended Gooty, Lead America's advisory council and its volunteer teams for organizing the event.
"Our democracy was founded on people rising up and standing up for their values, and we will continue to promote and protect this democracy," Subramanyam said, while recognizing Lead America's efforts to promote civic engagement and community leadership.
The gala highlighted Lead America's work in youth mentorship, interfaith engagement, diversity advocacy and community-building initiatives. Organizers said the event sought to bring together Americans from diverse backgrounds to reflect on the country's history while promoting dialogue and civic participation.
"We are hosting this American Freedom 250 Liberty Gala to honor the legacy of our nation and to provide a space where every member of our diverse community can come together in shared patriotism," Gooty said. "This is a pivotal moment in our history, and we invite everybody to join us to celebrate our collective identity, reflect on our shared progress, and commit to a future where liberty and opportunity continue to flourish for all."
Lead America, an all-volunteer nonprofit, says it focuses on youth leadership, education, advocacy, interfaith collaboration and building inclusive communities. The organization partnered with the Interfaith Leadership Alliance of Washington, D.C., and other community organizations for the event, which was organized as part of local commemorations leading up to the nation's 250th anniversary.
