New York Rep. Lawler seeks Indian-Asian Pacific award nominations
New York congressman invites nominations for community leaders in the 17th District.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) has opened nominations for the 2026 Indian-Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Changemaker Award, recognizing Indian American and Asian Pacific Islander leaders in New York’s 17th Congressional District.
Lawler announced that his office is accepting nominations for the initiative through July 31, according to a post on his official X account.

"I'm proud to recognize outstanding Indian-American and Asian Pacific Islander leaders from New York's 17th Congressional District through my Changemakers initiative," Lawler wrote. "If you know someone whose leadership and service are making a difference in the Hudson Valley, I encourage you to submit a nomination."
An accompanying graphic from his office described the recognition as honoring "Indian-Asian Pacific Islander Changemakers" and encouraged residents to nominate individuals making a positive impact in their communities.
According to a nomination form circulated by Lawler’s office, the award is intended for "someone who has had a positive impact on their community and has been a true 'changemaker' for others."
The form states that nominees must reside within New York’s 17th Congressional District, which includes Rockland and Putnam counties, along with parts of northern Westchester and southern Dutchess counties. Nominators are required to provide contact details for themselves and the nominee, along with the nominee’s town and county of residence.

The nomination form asks residents to submit three to four brief reasons explaining why the individual should be recognized. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 31, 2026. Questions about the nomination process can be directed to Donna Chiapperino at Lawler’s office.
The award is part of a broader Changemakers recognition series organized by Lawler’s office to highlight contributions from different communities across the district. Earlier this year, the office hosted its Black History Month Changemakers Awards, recognizing members of the Black community for their contributions. The office has also previously organized a Hispanic Changemakers ceremony during Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring members of the Hispanic community.
Lawler, 39, has represented New York’s 17th Congressional District since 2023 after previously serving in the New York State Assembly. He currently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
