Tyagi interacted with students, teachers, and families and “appreciated the enthusiasm and talent displayed by the students,” the Consulate said. She also noted the school’s role in nurturing cultural identity and strengthening community engagement.

The Consulate said the event reflected the involvement of families and educators in promoting Tamil language and heritage through community-based initiatives.

Tamil language schools in the United States are largely volunteer-driven and form part of a wider network of diaspora-led educational institutions aimed at preserving linguistic heritage.

Organizations such as the California Tamil Academy were founded by parents to teach Tamil language and culture to children of immigrant families and have expanded into multi-branch systems serving students across several states.

Coordinating bodies including the American Tamil Academy support curriculum development, teaching resources, and accreditation efforts for Tamil language instruction in the United States.

Tamil schools operate across states including California, Texas, New Jersey, and Washington, typically through weekend classes and community associations, combining language instruction with cultural education and performance-based learning.
