A 27-year-old Indian student from Hyderabad was shot dead during an apparent robbery at a gas station in Dallas, Texas, where he worked part-time.
The victim, identified as Chandrashekar Pole, had moved to the United States in 2023 to pursue higher studies after completing his bachelor’s in dental surgery in Hyderabad.

He recently obtained a master’s degree in data analytics from the University of North Texas in Denton and was seeking full-time employment while working night shifts at the gas station.
Authorities in Texas confirmed that police have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting, which occurred on Oct. 3. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy and has begun the process of issuing a death certificate, a step required before repatriation of the body to India.
The Consulate General of India (CGI) in Houston said it is in contact with Pole’s family and is following up on the case with local law enforcement.

Local politician Sudhir Reddy and former minister T. Harish Rao visited the family on Oct. 4. “The pain that the parents are going through, knowing that their son, who they believed would reach great heights, is no more, is heart-wrenching to witness,” Rao wrote on X, urging the state government to expedite the repatriation process.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of international students in the United States, particularly those working late-hour shifts in part-time jobs.
Authorities in Texas said the investigation into Pole’s killing remains ongoing. No arrests have yet been made.
