Indian community honors envoys at Los Angeles reception
Event highlights diaspora role in strengthening India-US ties.

Members of the Indian diaspora, community leaders and local interlocutors gathered in Los Angeles for a community reception honouring Ambassador Namgya C. Khampa, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C., and Consul General Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, according to an announcement posted on the official X account of India in Los Angeles.
The Consulate said the evening "celebrated India's heritage and the important role of the Indian community in strengthening bilateral relations," describing the gathering as an occasion that brought together diaspora members alongside key local figures.

The reception is the latest in a series of diaspora-focused engagements organised by Indian missions on the West Coast this year, reflecting continued outreach by Indian consulates to community members in California, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of Indian Americans in the United States.
The Los Angeles consulate, established in 2025 as India's newest diplomatic mission on the West Coast, has hosted a range of community events since opening, including cultural festivals, business roundtables and receptions for visiting Indian officials, according to the Consulate's official website.
The event echoes a similar community reception held in December by the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, where diaspora members, community organisations, business executives and cultural representatives gathered to honour Khampa.
At that reception, Khampa "complimented the Indian community for their achievements and invited them to be part of India's growth story," according to a post by the San Francisco consulate's official X account, previously reported by New India Abroad.
The San Francisco gathering was also described by the consulate as recognising the diaspora's "indispensable role" in elevating bilateral ties between India and the U.S. across sectors including technology, education, innovation and clean energy.
Khampa, a 2000-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has served as Chargé d'Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington since January 2026, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
Srinivasa is the inaugural Consul General of the Los Angeles mission, having previously served as Deputy Consul General in San Francisco, according to the Consulate's official website.
New India Abroad has separately reported on a series of similar diaspora engagement events across Indian consulates in the U.S. this year, including receptions, cultural celebrations and outreach programmes aimed at strengthening ties between the Indian government and community organisations in cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and San Diego.
